SUMMARY:BALMORAL: Eine Einzelausstellung von Hyekyung Son\, RichCake 1.11.24 – 18:00 Uhr
These post-war economic miracles in the 1950s and 1960s drove rapid industrialisation and economic growth\, but they also brought with them the realities of labor exploitation and social inequality – as reflected in the labor movements and worker’s struggles in both countries. In her solo exhibition\, “The Miracle on RhineHan”\, Balmoral artist-in-residence Hyekyung Son unveils and examines what lies behind this “miracle” – the exploitation\, sacrifice and devotion of working class people from Germany and South Korea. Through the unique use of color and space in her work\, the artist uncovers the contradictions and gaps in this historical narrative of unbridled economic progress and miracle in both countries\, opening up a space of contemplation and pause that challenges the flow of capitalism.\nText by Kathy-Ann Tan \nDas Team der ARSB freut sich auf die Besichtigung der Ausstellung zur Vernissage und/oder zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt während der Ausstellungsdauer (auf Anfrage).

SUMMARY:Balmoral: Vernissage: 15.11.2024 / 18 Uhr mit Einführung\, Talk und Screening
DESCRIPTION:Kyong Ju Park: I Am Fiction \nVernissage: 15.11.2024 / 18 Uhr mit Einführung\, Talk und Screening Kuratorin: Agnes D. Schofield \nSOLO-SHOW / 16.–22.11.2024\, RichCake\, Römerstr. \n  \nOn February 6\, 2008\, Tran Thanh Lan\, a young Vietnamese woman\, was found dead in a small town in South Korea. Jumped to her death from a balcony\, according to the police report. Artist-in-residence Kyong Ju Park doesn’t buy this version. For 16 years she has been working on this case and treating it in her artworks. It has been on stage at the theatre\, it has been in the Seoul Museum of Art\, and now it is in Bad Ems. Her installation at RichCake not only highlights the case of Tran Thanh Lan\, but all such crimes throughout the world. Human rights abuses\, modern slavery and exploitation are the topics of the Korean artist Kyong Ju Park\, who sees profiteering marriage brokers at the centre of this vortex. During her residency at Bad Ems\, Kyong Ju Park has carried on with her mammoth project. Coincidentally\, she experienced similar insecurity due to immigration laws. Her exhibition at RichCake draws parallels to her own experience with German immigration and her tortuous quest to obtain a residency permit. In cooperation with the Stadtmuseum Bad Ems\, where some of Kyong Ju Park’s works are exhibited as well. NOTE: The artist will be at RichCake daily from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm (except Monday and Saturday).
